Trimming the Startup Group and Task Bar Icons

Right-click the Taskbar > Properties box to customize your Notification Area and decide which Taskbar icons to hide or show. Use the System Configuration Utility program to stop programs in the Taskbar from automatically starting up and hogging system resources.
Start Menu > Run > msconfig. Click the Startup tab and uncheck the boxes next to programs you want to keep from starting up when Windows does.
